CommunityRob Briggs, president and chief executive of the GAR Foundation in Akron, was selected for the 2011 Ohio Philanthropy Award from the Ohio Grantmakers Forum, a statewide association of foundations, corporate contributions programs and other grant-making organizations.Forty-two employees from Summit, Medina and Portage counties were recognized and five received Employee of Distinction Awards from Goodwill Industries. Winners were Jennifer Aubley, a supervisor at Bober Markey Fedorovich; Amanda Blake, a stylist with the Gaven Scott Salon and Spa; Andrea Denton, clients rights coordinator with the Summit County ADM Board; Jim Isom, a network specialist with Child Guidance and Family Solutions; and Jennifer van Dulmen, a managing attorney with Community Legal Aid Services. EducationKent State’s College of Education, Health and Human Services announced that seven alumni were named to its hall of fame: Donald Coffee of Hudson, an educator; Thomas Fagan of Memphis, coordinator of school psychology programs at the University of Memphis; Geeta Verma of Denver, an associate professor of science education at the University of Colorado; Shalva Tabatadze of Tbilisi, Georgia (the country), an instructor at Tbilisi State University; Janette Habashi of Tulsa, Okla., associate professor of human relations at the University of Oklahoma; the late Gerald H. Read, a Kent State professor from 1943 to 1976; and Kenneth Dobbins of Cape Girardeau, Mo., president of Southeast Missouri State University. Mandy (Miller) Yates of Medina was one of six people inducted into the Ohio Northern University Athletic Hall of Fame. She is a 2002 pharmacy graduate and one of the most decorated track runners at the school. She works at CVS Pharmacy. MilitaryNicholas Milkovich, son of David Milkovich and Linda Bendetta, was promoted to major in the U.S. Army.
